A Real Life Black Power Couple
Meet The Talberts
In a relationship does it really matter who brings in the bigger check when you both keep each other working? Well, that seem to be the dynamic with David Talbert and his wife Lyn Sisson-Talbert; a real life power couple. These two are the master minds behind Netflix’s recent BLACK holiday original hit Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.
Jingle Jangle is all the Christmas movies, and childhood classics rolled into one, wrapped in a thick layer of black culture. With heavy hitters like: Anika Noni Rose, Forest Whitaker, Philicia Rashad, just to name a few, of course it was going to be a hit. The movie was a passion project worked on for years by David, a story to translate his childhood movies into something his son could relate to. Originally set to be a Broadway Play, Mrs. Sisson-Talbert came up with the idea of first making it into a movie to reach a wider audience, and what a great idea that was. Netflix bought the concept and allowed the duo to run away with their imagination and the outcome; the spirit of Christmas set to songs by john legend, and Philip Lawerence, with a multicultural cast with a spice of African beats and wardrobe viewed in 139 countries and translated in 32 languages… a HIT!
The Talberts are no strangers to working in tandem. David, a Morgan State and NYU Graduate, is a writer, director, and producer. His first play “Tellin’ It Like it Tiz” toured for 2 successful years. He’s written and directed 14 national tours, earned 24 NAACP nominations (and won some of course), and earned a NY Literary Award for Best Playwrite of the year. His first feature film, First Sunday was a success, and he also turned one of his own books into a film, Baggage Claim.
As the saying should go, beside every great man is a great woman, and that is most definitely Lyn Sisson Talbert. Lyn is an Actress, costume and wardrobe designer and of course Executive Producer. She started her career as a theatre Executive Producer, with 11 sold out tours, and distribution deals for productions on dvd, network, and streaming platforms, under her belt. She is credited for the global expansion of the Urban Theatre circuit by producing and filming the first-ever theatre production slated for retail, the 1998 production of Mr. Right Now; and since has worked along side her husband producing his plays and films.
